for Engineering Interns"

The goal of this brainstorming session is to develop a hands-on learning
activity that uses elements of inquiry but is geared toward the engineering
problem-solving process. This activity could be used in CfAO short
courses that prepare students for internships in both engineering and
science, such as the Akamai Observatory Short Course, the Akamai Optics
Short Course, and the Mainland Internship Short Course.

Universe"

and will be offered in August 2004 at Hartnell College in Salinas,
CA. The meeting will start with a brief informational presentation
about the goals, audience, and general topics of the short course.

Mainland Internship Short Course |

Each year, the CfAO hosts 15 undergraduate interns
who conduct research for 8 weeks at a CfAO mainland site. Their internship
experience begins with a week-long short course at UCSC. Topics usually
include astronomy, optics, vision science and engineering at UCSC. As
an instructor, you will have the chance to explore inquiry-based teaching
techniques during this course.

Sight and Science" is a four-week science program for high
school students, offered by the CfAO in collaboration with the COSMOS
program. Each year the CfAO puts together an instructional team to
teach, supervise student projects, and mentor. This meeting will
include an overview of the program and information about how newcomers
can get involved.
