Visions and Voices:
Educational Leadership in the Research Center Environment

Workshop Goals

The goals to be accomplished at the second annual workshop (2002) are to:

1) Facilitate productive exchanges between NSF Research Center education directors, and between this group and the NSF itself.
2) Identify innovative models for solving education challenges common to NSF Research Centers.
3) Identify several priority issues that are of concern to all NSF Research Centers, and possible next steps to be taken by NRCEN.
4) Determine mechanisms and strategies that NRCEN could employ to benefit NSF Research Center education programs and/or enhance the effectiveness of education directors.

Within one month of concluding the workshop, a group consisting of four members of the 2002 Planning Committee, plus the newly elected members of the 2003 Planning Committee (estimated to be seven individuals total) will meet with NSF staff to report on the outcomes of the conference, get feedback, and discuss future plans.

The goals to be accomplished after the meeting are to:

1) Publish conference proceedings.
2) Generate a vision statement and goals for NRCEN.
3) Generate preliminary plans and identify the leadership team for the next workshop.
4) Meet with NSF staff for debriefing and feedback.
