Maui Optics Short Course
(part of CfAO Akamai undergraduate internships offered on the island of Maui)

Opportunities for CfAO members to get involved: One or two additional instructors are needed to facilitate inquiries (workshop will help prepare you for this), and talk about current research opportunities at CfAO.

As part of the preparation for the CfAO Maui Akamai undergraduate internship, interns will attend a 5-day "short course" held at Maui Community College, developed and taught by the team listed above. The Akamai interns will then spend seven weeks working on projects with the following organizations: Boeing, Trex, Akimeka, Oceanit, Maui High Performance Computing Center, Institute for Astronomy, and the Maui Research and Science Center. The orientation includes the following topics:

  • Optics
  • Electronics
  • Computer control
  • Detectors
  • Preparation for the industry environment
