The State of California has mandated that smoking is not allowed in state-owned buildings and public areas. This applies to all individuals on the UCSC campus and includes all non-residential buildings. Smoking is permitted in designated residential areas only. Each meeting area has a designated smoking section, located outside, at least twenty-five feet away from buildings, doorways, windows and ventilation air intakes. Your Conference Office can provide you with additional information.

Clothing and Personal Items

UCSC is located on the edge of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary with typical summer daytime temperatures of 70-80 F degrees, and nighttime temperatures in the 50-60 F degrees. The weather can become quite cool and foggy, and we strongly recommend bringing a jacket or sweater. The natural setting of UCSC includes both meadows and redwood forests, and we suggest packing a pair of walking shoes.

Sheets, towels, wash cloths, a pillow, and a blanket are provided.

Downtown Santa Cruz is located ten minutes away by bus. Buses travel through campus approximately every 15 minutes and schedules are posted at the individual bus stops and at all Conference Offices.

The swimming pool, weight room, racquetball, outdoor track, tennis and basketball courts may be used by guests when the facilities are not in use by sports camps. A recreation pass must be purchased to use recreation facilities and can be purchased at the recreation office for $5.00 per day to conference attendees. Conference Office staff can provide additional information on recreational facilities, and other attractions in Santa Cruz County.
